Nutrition
Gary’s goal is to consume roughly 4,000 calories a day while training.
In order to maintain his rigorous training schedule and keep his current body weight, Gary must eat a host of lean meats, vegetables, fruits and other proteins in order to prepare for his back-to-back-to-back Ironman triathlon. Here’s a rundown of Gary’s nutrition and diet on a typical day:
Breakfast – Eat egg beaters with two pieces of Ezekiel bread with peanut butter and honey along with fruit.
Snack – Around 10 a.m. Gary will eat almonds, a couple fig newtons and maybe a banana and yogurt.
Lunch – Turkey sandwich on wheat bread with a protein shake and a piece of fruit.
Snack – Around 2 p.m. before afternoon workout, Gary will eat a Powerbar, an apple and other fruits.
Dinner – After afternoon workout, Gary will eat fish or chicken with wild rice, a big spinach salad with blueberries, tomatoes, pecans, ect.
As Gary gets closer to his race day, his training, calorie intake and amount of food will increase. Gary expects to burn approximately 10-12,000 calories during one day of the Ironman Triathlon. That’s roughly 30-36,000 calories (or 15-18 day’s worth of calories) for the entire Triple Iron 422!
